Bottega Veneta Jodie
slouchy hobo with a knotted intrecciato handle
Bottega Veneta Jodie in short
The Bottega Veneta Jodie is a slouchy hobo built around a knotted intrecciato handle, published in three sizes: Mini 28 x 23 x 8 cm, Small 36 x 21 x 13 cm and Classic 40 x 48 x 16 cm with the knot included in the height. This page covers the Mini, the 28 cm body with a 10 cm handle drop that our album evidence matches most often, and records the knotted handle as structural rather than decorative.

Jodie Mini measurements in centimetres and inches
The Jodie hangs from a knot rather than standing on a base, so the published height describes the bag as it is carried and not as it sits. The rows below describe the Mini tier, which is the size the album record for this model matches most often.
| Measurement | Value | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Published width, Mini | 28 cm / 11 in | Bottega Veneta Jodie size guide, size at each tier |
| Published height, Mini | 23 cm / 9.1 in | Bottega Veneta Jodie size guide, size at each tier |

| Width against the Small (36 cm) | 8 cm / 3.1 in narrower | difference between the two published widths |
| Handle drop against the Small (18 cm) | 8 cm / 3.1 in shorter | difference between the two published drops |
| Depth against the Small (13 cm) | 5 cm / 2.0 in shallower | difference between the two published depths |

The height figure on this model needs one warning attached to it. On the Classic tier, 48 cm includes the knotted handle rather than the body alone, which is why the Classic reads far taller on a chart than it looks in the hand. The same logic applies to the Mini in the opposite direction: the number is a shoulder-hung height, and a half-empty Jodie collapses inward, so the bag in front of you can look smaller than 28 x 23 x 8 cm suggests.
The Jodie Mini against the Small and the Classic
Three tiers carry the Jodie name today, and one of them was renamed: the tier called Teen Jodie until 2025 is now listed as Small Jodie under the same style code, with identical measurements and the same 18 cm drop. No source uses the name 'Classic Jodie'; that word is our own label for the 40 x 48 x 16 cm body, which Bottega listed as Small Jodie in 2021 and 2022 and now lists simply as Jodie. The bags did not change, so the measurements are the identifier.
| Tier | Width x height x depth | Handle drop | Carry character | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini (this page) | 28 x 23 x 8 cm / 11 x 9.1 x 3.1 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | Evening bag with a daytime alibi, carried by the knot or on a short shoulder drop | A phone, cards and lipstick |
| Small (called Teen Jodie until 2025) | 36 x 21 x 13 cm / 14.2 x 8.3 x 5.1 in | 18 cm / 7.1 in | The day-to-night size; the drop clears the shoulder properly | A full daily load, no structured items |
| Classic (our label; listed as Small Jodie in 2021–2022) | 40 x 48 x 16 cm / 15.7 x 18.9 x 6.3 in | 30 cm / 11.8 in | True shoulder bag with the most relaxed slouch | Height includes the knot; the body is smaller than 48 cm suggests |
| Neighbour: Cassette (same house) | about 23 x 15 x 6 cm | adjustable crossbody strap, tucks inside to make a clutch | Boxy padded crossbody in the oversized Maxi weave | Structured carry rather than a slouch |
| Neighbour: Balenciaga City Medium (adjacent model) | 38.5 x 24 x 15 cm | 15 cm handle drop, 42 cm strap drop | Slouchy zipped shoulder bag with braided handles | A deeper, more structured slouch than the Jodie |
| Neighbour: Chanel Classic Flap Medium (adjacent model) | 25.5 x 16 x 7.5 cm | 44 cm single chain | Structured quilted flap with a woven chain | Same width class as the Mini Jodie, but a rigid flap instead of a knotted soft body |
The step from the Mini to the Small is bigger than the tier names suggest: roughly 10 cm wider with an 18 cm drop, which is the point at which the bag sits on the shoulder rather than in the hand or the crook of the arm. The Cassette comparison is worth keeping in view as well, because both are intrecciato bags in the same house and they carry completely differently: the Jodie is a rounded hobo hanging from a knot, the Cassette is a boxy crossbody with an adjustable strap.
Every published size in the Jodie range
Three tiers carry the name today. One of them was renamed: the tier Bottega listed as Teen Jodie until 2025 is now Small Jodie, same style code and same 36 x 21 x 13 cm. The 40 x 48 x 16 cm body was listed as Small Jodie in 2021–2022 and is listed simply as Jodie now, so the centimetres are the reliable identifier.
| Size | Width | Height | Depth | What fits | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jodie Mini | 28 cm / 11.0 in | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 8 cm / 3.1 in | A phone, cardholder, keys and a compact; the rounded body holds less than the width suggests. | bv-jodie-bag-size-guide |
| Jodie Small (formerly Teen) | 36 cm / 14.2 in | 21 cm / 8.3 in | 13 cm / 5.1 in | A full daily load with an 18 cm handle drop — the tier most buyers mean by "a Jodie". | bv-jodie-bag-size-guide |
| Jodie Classic (formerly Small) | 40 cm / 15.7 in | 48 cm / 18.9 in | 16 cm / 6.3 in | The roomiest slug hobo: the 48 cm height includes the knotted handle, so the body is smaller than the figure implies. | bv-jodie-bag-size-guide |
| Cassette (nearest reference) | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 15 cm / 5.9 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | Reference point: the same weave in a boxy crossbody, 13 cm narrower than the Jodie Small. | Model record bv-cassette |
| Andiamo Medium (nearest reference) | 25 cm / 9.8 in | 20 cm / 7.9 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | Reference point: Bottega's structured top-handle at the same depth class as the Jodie Mini. | Model record bv-andiamo |
| Pochette Métis (cross-brand reference) | 25 cm / 9.8 in | 19 cm / 7.5 in | 9 cm / 3.5 in | Cross-brand reference point: a flat 25 cm flap, the nearest volume to the Jodie Mini. | Model record lv-pochette-metis |
Every centimetre above is printed in this site’s own records; inch values are the same figures converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, so no page carries a second set of inches. Rows marked as reference points are neighbouring models published on this site, not Jodie tiers — they are here to give the ladder a scale.
The same figures are indexed, with the source page and the date each one was checked, in the Luxury Bag Size Index — the cross-brand table that holds the published centimetre figures for bags, belts and shoes in one place.
Dimensions in cm and inches
The tier words have moved on the Jodie while the bags have not, so the centimetres tell you more than the name does.
The Jodie Small — the tier formerly called Teen — is published at 36 x 21 x 13 cm with an 18 cm handle drop, which is 14.2 x 8.3 x 5.1 inches. The line’s Mini is published at 28 x 23 x 8 cm with a 10 cm drop, and the Classic at 40 x 48 x 16 cm with a 30 cm drop.
The Classic figure needs one note: its 48 cm height includes the knotted handle, not just the body. The knot is structural — the whole bag hangs from it — so the number overstates the body and understates how much the bag collapses when it is not full. That is why the centimetres, rather than the tier word, are the thing to compare.
Inch values are the published centimetres converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, the same rule the guides use. Rows with no published figure say so.
How to recognise it in a photo
Knotted intrecciato handle over a soft crescent body.
Not this style when: A structured flap points to another Bottega Veneta family.
Photos confirm this model reliably and its size poorly, for the same reason: the knot, the weave and the slouch are all visible, and the slouch is what makes the dimensions hard to read from a picture.
- A knotted handle at the top of the bag, formed from the same woven leather as the body rather than attached as a separate strap.
- An intrecciato weave running continuously across the body, with no large visible logo on the exterior.
- A rounded, crescent-shaped hobo body with a soft base rather than a flat panel.
- A body that collapses inward where it is set down, since the whole bag hangs from the knot and the weave folds when the bag is not full.
- A shoulder drop that can be judged from a worn photo: 10 cm on the Mini reads as a hand or wrist carry, 18 cm on the Small clears the shoulder.
- A tape across the widest point, because the Mini and Small differ by 8 cm of width and the silhouettes are otherwise identical.
- A frame of the bag held against the body if you are choosing between tiers, because the slouch changes how large the bag looks more than the centimetres do.
- An interior frame, since the published records for this style do not include an interior specification and the pocket arrangement is therefore a question rather than an assumption.
What the Mini Jodie carries
The Jodie is a soft, unlined-looking weave body with a narrow footprint, so the load is decided by how the leather folds rather than by a rigid interior. The guide describes the Mini as an evening size and the Small as the everyday one.
A full daily load fits in the Small: a wallet, a phone, keys, a pouch and a folded scarf, with the 13 cm depth letting a wallet and a compact sit side by side. The 18 cm handle drop is what makes it clear the shoulder, and the bag sits under the arm rather than in the hand.
The 36 cm width means the body spans the hip when it is carried, and the intrecciato softens with use, so a loaded Small spreads slightly wider than its published figure. The Mini at 28 cm wide and 8 cm deep takes a phone, a cardholder and keys, and is the tier sold as an evening bag.
- A phone, cards and a lipstick, which is the documented load for the Mini tier.
- Keys, which sit at the bottom of the body without needing a pocket because the weave holds them in place when the bag is hung.
- A full daily load only from the Small upward, where the guide describes the 36 cm body as the size most buyers actually want.
- A larger item such as a notebook or a pouch, which the Small's 13 cm gusset handles and the Mini's 8 cm gusset does not.
- Not a laptop or a tablet at any tier in the range: the published figures for the three sizes stay within handbag proportions.
- Not a structured insert, because a hard shape removes the slouch the design is built around.
- Not a full change of clothes, which the published depths of 8 cm, 13 cm and 16 cm rule out at every tier.
The load notes follow the published tier figures and the size descriptions in our Bottega Veneta Jodie guide, not an inside measurement of a specific bag. Because the body collapses when it is not full, treat the list as an estimate for the size and confirm your own load against a photo of the piece.
Capacity notes follow the size table in this site’s Jodie guide, which lists the Small as the day-to-night tier and the Mini as an essentials-only bag.
How it compares with the next size up
The Mini below and the Classic above are the other two published tiers of the same line.
Down a tier, the Mini at 28 x 23 x 8 cm is 8 cm narrower and 5 cm shallower, and its handle drop is 8 cm shorter — the two differences together are what make it an evening bag rather than a shoulder bag. Up a tier, the Classic at 40 x 48 x 16 cm is 4 cm wider and 3 cm deeper on the body, with the 48 cm figure including its knotted handle.
Outside the line, the Cassette is published at about 23 x 15 x 6 cm — the boxy crossbody version of the same weave, and 13 cm narrower than the Jodie Small. That pair answers the common Bottega question: a soft shoulder hobo or a structured crossbody, in the same material.
Compared values are the published outside measurements listed in the ladder table above.
Weave, handle and details as recorded
This is one of the few models on the site where the honest material answer is partly a gap: the archive record for the Jodie does not carry a leather, colour or hardware list, and the guides describe the construction rather than a finish catalogue. What is on record is set out below, and the missing parts stay marked as unpublished.
- Weave
- The body and the handle are intrecciato: the leather is woven in strips rather than cut as a single panel, which is what gives the bag its shape memory and its soft collapse when it is empty.
- Handle
- The knot is structural rather than decorative - the whole bag hangs from a single point - and it is formed from the same weave, so the handle and body move together when the bag is carried.
- Leather list
- Not published yet for this style. The site's model record does not carry a leather family for the Jodie, and its guides do not name one either, so any specific hide name should be confirmed on the piece rather than taken from a family description.
- Colour and hardware
- Not published yet for this style. The archive record holds no colour or hardware entry for this model, which matters on a design whose exterior shows no large metal logo: the hardware element to check in a photo is the handle attachment rather than a plate or clasp.

Jodie questions buyers ask before choosing a size
Which Jodie size is 28 cm wide?
The Mini: 28 x 23 x 8 cm with a 10 cm handle drop, which the guide describes as an evening bag carried by the knot or on a short shoulder drop. The next tier up is the Small at 36 cm, and the largest is the Classic at 40 cm.
Why do the Jodie size names look inconsistent on resale sites?
Because the tier words have moved while the bags have not. The tier that Bottega listed as Teen Jodie until 2025 is listed today as Small Jodie under the same style code, so a listing written before the change and one written after use opposite words for the same body. The 40 x 48 x 16 cm tier was listed as Small Jodie in 2021 and 2022 and is listed simply as Jodie now, and resale platforms call that same body Small, Medium or Large depending on the page.
Why is the Classic Jodie listed at 48 cm tall?
That figure includes the knotted handle. The body itself is smaller than the number implies, and the same applies in a smaller way to the other tiers: because the bag hangs from a knot, the published height is a carried height rather than a resting one.
Can the Mini Jodie be worn on the shoulder?
On a 10 cm drop it sits in the hand or in the crook of the arm, and can reach the shoulder on some frames with the knot pulled up. Our guide's practical description is that the Small, at an 18 cm drop, is the tier that clears the shoulder properly.
What does a half-empty Jodie look like?
Smaller and softer than its measurements. Because the weave collapses inward when the bag is not full, an empty Jodie reads smaller than its listed size, which is one reason two people can compare the same tier and disagree about how big it looks.
Which is the better everyday Jodie?
The Small. At about 36 cm wide with an 18 cm drop it holds a full daily load and still moves between hand, arm and shoulder carry, which is why our guide calls it the size most people actually want.
