Saint Laurent LouLou
quilted flap bag with a chain strap and a metal YSL logo
YSL LouLou Small at a glance
The Saint Laurent LouLou Small is the 23 x 17 x 9 cm body our model record takes from the brand's own 2023 product page, in matelasse Y-quilted leather with a magnetic flap and a chain that doubles to a 30 cm drop or runs 56 cm single. It carries a phone, a card holder, keys and a compact; the 9 cm depth is what lets a wallet sit flat where a flat envelope bag will not.

LouLou Small measurements in centimetres and inches
Saint Laurent publishes more than one width for this tier, so the rows below print both and state which product page each one came from. Everything else - the height and the 9 cm depth - is identical in both records, and the inch line is the same in both as well.

Width for this tier has been published two ways by the brand itself: 25 cm in 2021 and 23 cm in 2023, with the identical inch line, 9.8 x 6.6 x 3.5 in, printed on both pages. Our model record takes the 23 cm figure from the 2023 page and keeps the 2021 page as a second record, and our size guide lists both rows rather than choosing one silently. Height and depth do not move between the two, so the practical question - does a wallet sit flat beside a phone - has the same answer either way.
LouLou Small against the other LouLou tiers and lines
The LouLou name covers several lines with different depths, and the same tier word can describe bodies from 20 cm to 26 cm. The table prints the figures our size guide records, including the line names, because depth is what separates them.
| Tier and line | Width x height x depth | Drop | Carries comfortably | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Toy | 20 x 14 x 7.5 cm / 7.8 x 5.5 x 2.9 in | 14 cm handle / 57 cm chain | Phone, card holder, keys, three card slots | A compact, or anything with depth |
| Classic Small, 2021 page (this tier) | 25 x 17 x 9 cm / 9.8 x 6.6 x 3.5 in | 30 cm doubled / 56 cm single | Phone, card holder, keys, compact | A full-size wallet beside the phone |
| Classic Small, 2023 page (the figure this page leads with) | 23 x 17 x 9 cm / 9.1 x 6.6 x 3.5 in | 30 cm doubled / 56 cm single | The same load at 2 cm less width | The same limit |
| Classic Medium | 32 x 22 x 12 cm / 12.6 x 8.7 x 4.7 in | 26 cm doubled / 48 cm single | Phone, full-size wallet, pouch, extras | A laptop or a bulky flat object |
| Classic Large | 38 x 27 x 14 cm / 14.9 x 10.6 x 5.5 in | 26 cm folded / 48 cm single | A working bag: wallet, pouch, folded scarf | A 13 inch laptop in the classic body |
| Puffer Small | 29 x 17 x 11 cm / 11.4 x 6.6 x 4.3 in | 28 cm folded | The Medium's load with more give | A laptop |
| 2025 lambskin / suede Small (adjacent record) | 24 x 14 x 6 cm / 9.4 x 5.5 x 2.4 in | not published | Phone, cards, keys, slim pouch | A compact: the body is 3 cm shallower |
| Retailer-listed Mini in suede (adjacent record) | 19.5 x 12 x 4.5 cm / 7.7 x 4.7 x 1.8 in | 106 cm chain length | Essentials only | Not the same body as the Toy |
Two traps sit in this table. The first is the tier word: a listing that says LouLou Small can describe a 20 cm Toy, a 23 or 25 cm classic body, a 24 cm 2025 body or a 26 cm suede version, so the measurements have to be asked for. The second is depth, which is the cleanest way to tell the lines apart - the classic Small is 9 cm deep, the 2025 Small is 6 cm, and the Puffer Small is 11 cm. Measuring the gusset alone will place a listing in the right line almost every time.
Every published size in the LouLou range
The LouLou is published in four classic tiers plus two Puffer tiers and a 2025 line; Saint Laurent's own pages print 25 cm and 23 cm for the same Small tier two years apart, so both are listed.
| Size | Width | Height | Depth | What fits | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LouLou Classic Toy | 20 cm / 7.9 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | 7.5 cm / 3.0 in | Phone, cardholder, keys and three cards in the built-in slots; nothing with depth. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Small (2021 product page) | 25 cm / 9.8 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 9 cm / 3.5 in | Phone, cardholder, keys and a compact — but not a full-size wallet beside the phone. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Small (2023 product page) | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 9 cm / 3.5 in | Phone, card holder, keys and a compact; a full-size wallet beside the phone is where this tier stops. The 2023 body is 2 cm narrower than the 2021 line at the same height and depth. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Classic Medium | 32 cm / 12.6 in | 22 cm / 8.7 in | 12 cm / 4.7 in | Phone, full-size wallet, pouch and extras; a laptop or bulky flat object stops it working. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Classic Large | 38 cm / 15.0 in | 27 cm / 10.6 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | The biggest classic tier: a folded scarf or a small tablet as well as the Medium load. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Puffer Small | 29 cm / 11.4 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 11 cm / 4.3 in | The Medium's load with more give: phone, wallet, keys, pouch and extras. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Puffer Medium | 35 cm / 13.8 in | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 13.5 cm / 5.3 in | A full daily load in a padded body; still not a laptop. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou 2025 lambskin / suede Small | 24 cm / 9.4 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | Phone, cards, keys and a slim pouch; the body is 3 cm shallower than the classic Small. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou 2025 lambskin / suede Medium | 29 cm / 11.4 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 8 cm / 3.1 in | The 2025 line's larger tier: phone, wallet, keys and a pouch. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
| LouLou Retailer-listed Mini (suede) | 19.5 cm / 7.7 in | 12 cm / 4.7 in | 4.5 cm / 1.8 in | A retailer tier, not a Saint Laurent one: 2 cm shallower than the Toy, so it holds cards and a phone only. | ysl-loulou-bag-size-guide |
Every centimetre above is printed in this site’s own records; inch values are the same figures converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, so no page carries a second set of inches. Rows marked as reference points are neighbouring models published on this site, not LouLou tiers — they are here to give the ladder a scale.
The same figures are indexed, with the source page and the date each one was checked, in the Luxury Bag Size Index — the cross-brand table that holds the published centimetre figures for bags, belts and shoes in one place.

Dimensions in cm and inches
Saint Laurent published two different widths for the same Small tier two years apart, and both are printed here.
The LouLou Small is published at 25 x 17 x 9 cm on Saint Laurent’s 2021 product page and at 23 x 17 x 9 cm on the 2023 page for the same tier, which is 9.8 x 6.6 x 3.5 inches and 9 x 6.6 x 3.5 inches respectively. Height and depth are identical between the two; only the width moved, and the site prints both rather than picking one.
The wider ladder runs Toy 20 x 14 x 7.5 cm, Small 25 or 23 x 17 x 9 cm, Medium 32 x 22 x 12 cm and Large 38 x 27 x 14 cm, with a Puffer family alongside and a 2025 lambskin and suede line whose Small is published at 24 x 14 x 6 cm. The word Small therefore covers bodies from 20 to 26 cm depending on the line and the year, which is why the centimetres matter more than the tier word.
Inch values are the published centimetres converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, the same rule the guides use. Rows with no published figure say so.
How to recognise it in a photo
Diamond quilting on soft leather, a flap, a leather-interwoven chain and a centred metal YSL on the front.
Not this style when: Chevron quilting on a square flap is an Envelope.
The LouLou identification is about the quilting and the monogram; the tier is about depth and drop. The checklist below keeps those two questions separate on purpose.
- An interlocking YSL monogram in metal at the centre of the flap, sitting inside the quilt lines rather than on a plain panel.
- Quilt channels that meet the monogram in the Y pattern that gives the line its name; chevron and diamond quilt variants also appear across the range.
- A soft, padded flap and body that gives slightly under its own weight, rather than a flat envelope panel.
- A metal chain strap, which Saint Laurent records as doubling on the classic Small to give two different drops.
- A magnetic snap under the flap, which is the closure across the range rather than a turn-lock or a push clasp.
- Hardware tone as a scale reference: a bronze or gold-tone lock marks the centre of the flap, while a black-metal lock on black leather disappears and makes the bag read as an unbroken quilted rectangle.
- A tape across the base and across the gusset: 9 cm deep is the classic Small, 6 cm the 2025 line and 11 cm the Puffer Small.
- A frame of the bag worn from the shoulder with the chain at both lengths, since 30 cm doubled and 56 cm single sit very differently on the body.
What fits in a 9 cm deep LouLou
The classic Small is a padded bag, so its depth is usable rather than nominal. Our size guide records the interior arrangement and the load for this tier, and the note that matters is the item it stops at.
A phone, a cardholder, keys and a compact fit at the Small tier — but not a full-size wallet beside the phone, because the bag is 9 cm deep and the padded body takes up part of that depth. The built-in card slots in the Toy tier are not repeated at the Small, so cards live in the main compartment.
The 9 cm depth is what separates the LouLou from the flat Saint Laurent flaps: the Envelope Medium is published at 6 cm. That 3 cm is the difference between a wallet that has to stay slim and one that does not.
- A phone, a card holder, keys and a compact, which is the documented load for the classic Small in our guide.
- A wallet sitting flat, which the 9 cm depth allows: the guide notes that depth rather than width is what lets a wallet lie in place.
- Small items in the central zipped compartment and the slot pocket, which are the two interior features Saint Laurent publishes for this tier.
- A slim pouch, which is realistic at this size and would be tight in the 6 cm deep 2025 body.
- Not a full-size wallet beside the phone, which the guide marks as the point where the classic Small stops.
- Not a compact at the 2025 Small's 6 cm depth, which the guide lists as the practical difference between the two lines.
- Not a tablet or a notebook, at any tier below the classic Medium's 32 x 22 x 12 cm body.
The load notes follow the published interior description and capacity table in our Saint Laurent LouLou size guide and the dimensions on the archived brand pages, not an inside measurement of a specific bag. Treat them as an estimate for the size and confirm the depth of the piece with a tape photo across the gusset.
Capacity follows the tier table in this site’s LouLou guide, which lists the Small as a phone, cardholder, keys and compact carry.
How it compares with the next size up
The Toy below and the Classic Medium above are the published tiers either side of the Small.
Down a tier, the Toy at 20 x 14 x 7.5 cm is 5 cm narrower and 1.5 cm shallower and carries built-in card slots instead of a full compartment. Up a tier, the Classic Medium at 32 x 22 x 12 cm adds 7 cm of width and 3 cm of depth and is the first tier that takes a full wallet, a phone and a pouch together.
The 2025 line changes the shape rather than the ladder: its Small is published at 24 x 14 x 6 cm, which is 3 cm shallower than the classic Small and 1 cm wider than the 2023 figure. Anyone comparing a recent lambskin or suede LouLou with a classic quilted one is comparing two different bodies, not two years of one.
Compared values are the published outside measurements listed in the ladder table above.
Leather, quilting names, hardware tones and colour
Four things vary across the LouLou range and none of them changes a measurement: the leather and quilting pattern, the hardware tone, the line a piece belongs to, and the colour.
- Leather and quilting
- The classic line is matelasse "Y" calfskin, with the quilt channels running through the front monogram. Lambskin and suede appear on later lines, and the guide's rule of thumb is that depth and finish together tell you which line a bag belongs to: the classic bodies are the deep quilted ones, the 2025 bodies are noticeably thinner.
- Hardware tones
- The range has been issued in most of the house's metal tones, including bronze-toned on the classic Medium and Large, oxidized nickel on the 2021 Toy, black metal on the 2021 Small, matte black on the Puffer Small, brushed silver on the Puffer Medium, gold-tone on some Toy listings, silver-toned on one Medium page and aged gold on one resale Medium. Our guide records the whole spread rather than settling on a single tone per tier.
- Colour
- Colour is the least measurable variable and the one most affected by photography. Because the flap is quilted rather than plain, a deep tone hides the quilt detail and a pale tone exaggerates it, which is why two photos of the same tier can look like different bags.
- Interior finish
- Grosgrain lining across the classic tiers and both Puffers, with the interior layout published per tier: a zipped central compartment plus a slot pocket on the Small, and two main compartments separated by a zip pocket on the Medium.
- Album reference
- The Y-quilted piece photographed in our size guide carries album reference 770873: burgundy leather, chevron-style Y-quilt channels across the flap and the monogram in gold tone. That combination of quilting and monogram is what separates a LouLou from the flat, unquilted Kate.
Current catalog photos for this style
10 album photos in this batch, each labelled with the album reference (mark_code) you can quote in a message.
Each caption is the album reference for that piece, so a photo here can be matched back to the listing it came from. Nothing on these photos has been covered or altered.
Hardware, stitching, lining and interior, in photos
Five album photos of the LouLou Small that show the metal lettering, the quilting stitch lines, the lining and the inside of the flap, each with its album reference.

LouLou Small questions buyers ask us
Is the LouLou Small 23 cm or 25 cm wide?
Saint Laurent has published both: 25 cm on a 2021 page and 23 cm on a 2023 page, with the same inch line on both. Our model record leads with the 23 cm figure from the 2023 page and keeps the other as a second source, and height and depth are identical either way.
How does the LouLou Small chain work?
It is a metal chain that Saint Laurent records as doubling, which gives a 30 cm doubled drop for shoulder carry and a 56 cm single drop for crossbody wear. Our guide notes that these two figures come from different measurement conventions, so read both as approximate.
What separates a LouLou from a YSL Kate?
Depth and quilting. The LouLou is a padded Y-quilted bag and the Kate is a flat envelope: the LouLou Small is 23-25 x 17 x 9 cm against a Kate Medium at 24 x 14.5 x 5.5 cm, and there is no Kate as large as the LouLou Large.
Does the LouLou Small have a zipped pocket inside?
Yes. Saint Laurent publishes the interior as a central inside compartment with zip closure plus one slot pocket, with grosgrain lining. The Medium tier is recorded with two main compartments separated by a zip pocket instead.
Why do some 2025 LouLou Small bags measure 6 cm deep?
Because they belong to a different line. The 2025 lambskin and suede Small is published at 24 x 14 x 6 cm, against the classic Small's 9 cm depth, so the body is 3 cm shallower. Measuring the gusset is the fastest way to tell which line a listing is.
Which hardware tone should I expect on a classic LouLou Small?
There is more than one. Our guide records black metal on the 2021 Small, and the tone has varied across tiers and production runs, with gold, silver, bronze and aged finishes all appearing on LouLou pages. The tone changes how the bag photographs but not a single measurement.
How do I measure a LouLou before sending an inquiry?
Three numbers: depth at the base, width across the base with the flap closed, and the strap drop at full length and shortened. Depth places the line, width places the tier, and the drop tells you whether the chain has been altered or the bag comes from a different year.
