Chanel Mini Classic Flap
small quilted flap bag with a long interwoven chain, single flap
Chanel Mini Classic Flap in one paragraph
The Chanel Mini Classic Flap is the smallest quilted flap in the line: the rectangular Mini is listed at 20 x 13 x 5 cm with a fixed 58 cm chain, and the square Mini at 17 x 17 x 6 cm with a 54 cm chain. Both take a compact phone, a card holder, keys and a lipstick, and neither has the long-chain option that the Small, Medium and Jumbo carry.

Mini Classic Flap measurements in centimetres and inches
This page uses the rectangular Mini, because that is the body most listings mean and the one the archive records. The square Mini is a different bag with a different height and chain, and the rows below keep both visible so the two are never confused. Values are printed as width x height x depth.

The rectangular Mini is one of the few tiers where published charts genuinely disagree: our size guide prints 20 x 13 x 5 cm, and some measurement pages list 20 x 12.5 x 7 cm for the same body. Our guide and this page follow 20 x 13 x 5 cm, and the difference is a measurement-convention gap rather than two different bags. If the exact depth matters to you, ask for a tape across the gusset of the piece itself, because a 5 cm and a 7 cm gusset read very differently once a phone is inside.
The Mini against the square Mini and the larger Classic Flaps
The two Minis are not the same bag in two finishes: the square one is taller and the rectangular one wider and shallower. The table sets both against the larger Classic Flaps and against the Boy Mini, which is the other small Chanel flap buyers compare with it.
| Tier | Width | Height | Depth | Chain drop | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Square | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | 54 cm fixed | Standing room for a phone; the smallest body in the line |
| Mini Rectangular (this page) | 20 cm / 7.9 in | 13 cm / 5.1 in | 5 cm / 2.0 in | 58 cm fixed | The widest and shallowest Mini; longest chain of the two |
| Small | 23 cm / 9.0 in | 14.5 cm / 5.7 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | 42 cm single | The first size that stops being an evening-only bag |
| Medium / Large | 25.5 cm / 10.0 in | 16 cm / 6.3 in | 7.5 cm / 2.9 in | 44 cm single | Adds a full wallet and a compact mirror to the load |
| Jumbo | 30 cm / 11.8 in | 19.5 cm / 7.7 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | 33 cm doubled | Full wallet and power bank together |
| Maxi | 33 cm / 13.0 in | 23 cm / 9.0 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | 58 cm single | Travel proportions, longest strap of the flap line |
| Boy Mini (adjacent line) | 15 cm / 5.9 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | 30.5 cm doubled / 55.9 cm single | Narrower than the square Mini but deeper front to back |
Reading the two Minis together explains most of the confusion around this tier. A phone stands upright in the square Mini and lies flat in the rectangular one, so the same phone leaves different usable space in each, and the chain differs by 4 cm between them. Neither one offers the long-chain version, so the drop is fixed at 54 cm or 58 cm depending on which body the listing refers to.
Every published size in the Classic Flap range
Chanel publishes the Classic Flap as a ladder of six tiers; the tier word matters less than the width, because the same word is used for different bodies across years.
| Size | Width | Height | Depth | What fits | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Flap Mini Square | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 17 cm / 6.7 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | A phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick; the 6 cm depth is what stops a compact or a full wallet. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
| Classic Flap Mini Rectangular | 20 cm / 7.9 in | 13 cm / 5.1 in | 5 cm / 2.0 in | A compact phone, cardholder, keys and a lipstick; 5 cm of depth rules out a compact mirror or a power bank. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
| Classic Flap Small | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 14.5 cm / 5.7 in | 6 cm / 2.4 in | Every phone size, a cardholder, keys, a lipstick and a compact mirror, but not a power bank. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
| Classic Flap Medium / Large | 25.5 cm / 10.0 in | 16 cm / 6.3 in | 7.5 cm / 3.0 in | A phone, a full wallet, keys, a compact mirror and a small power bank — the tier the guide lists as the first one that takes all six everyday items. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
| Classic Flap Jumbo | 30 cm / 11.8 in | 19.5 cm / 7.7 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | The Medium load plus a full-size power bank and a tougher phone case. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
| Classic Flap Maxi | 33 cm / 13.0 in | 23 cm / 9.1 in | 10 cm / 3.9 in | The Jumbo load with room for a folded scarf or a slim tablet; still no laptop. | chanel-classic-flap-bag-size-guide-2024 |
Every centimetre above is printed in this site’s own records; inch values are the same figures converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, so no page carries a second set of inches. Rows marked as reference points are neighbouring models published on this site, not Classic Flap tiers — they are here to give the ladder a scale.
The same figures are indexed, with the source page and the date each one was checked, in the Luxury Bag Size Index — the cross-brand table that holds the published centimetre figures for bags, belts and shoes in one place.

Dimensions in cm and inches
The Mini tier is really two bodies, and they are different shapes rather than two names for one bag.
Chanel publishes two Mini Classic Flaps: a rectangular body at 20 x 13 x 5 cm and a square body at 17 x 17 x 6 cm. The rectangular Mini is the wider, shallower bag — 3 cm wider and 1 cm shallower — while the square Mini is closer to a cube and takes taller items. Both are published with a single-strand chain, so neither can be doubled for shoulder carry without shortening it.
The chain is the figure that surprises buyers: the rectangular Mini carries a 58 cm chain and the square a 54 cm one. Both are longer than the 42 cm single chain on the Small tier, which is why a Mini hangs lower on the body and is worn crossbody rather than under the arm.
Inch values are the published centimetres converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, the same rule the guides use. Rows with no published figure say so.
How to recognise it in a photo
The same face as a Classic Flap but smaller: single flap, CC turn-lock and a proportionally longer, finer chain that cannot be doubled up to shorten it.
Not this style when: A body close to A4 height with a chain that doubles up is a Medium or Large; a top handle means it is not the Mini Flap.
A Mini Classic Flap and a Small are close enough in a photo that the checklist below is mostly about scale rather than decoration. The style details are the same across the family; the last three items are what actually separate the tiers.
- Diamond quilting on both the flap and the body, at the same scale, in lambskin or a grained caviar finish.
- A CC turn-lock centred on the flap, sitting flush with the leather rather than mounted on a plate.
- A single outer flap: the Mini has one flap layer, where the Medium and larger tiers show a second flap underneath.
- A leather-interwoven chain, proportionally finer and longer than the chain on the Small and Medium.
- A chain that cannot be doubled up to shorten it, which is the fastest way to tell a Mini from a Small in a worn photo.
- No top handle anywhere on the body; a handle means the piece is not a Mini Flap.
- A tape or a phone laid across the body: 20 cm at the widest point is the rectangular Mini, 17 cm is the square one.
- A frame showing the bag worn from the shoulder: at a 58 cm drop the chain hangs at the hip on most frames, which is what the Mini was cut for.
What a 20 cm Mini actually holds
Because this is the smallest tier, the honest answer is short: the Mini is a phone-plus-essentials bag, and the capacity table in our size guide lists exactly what is documented for it.
A compact phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick fit in either Mini; the square body adds room for small cosmetics because of its extra height. A compact mirror does not fit in the rectangular Mini, and a full-size wallet does not fit in either — the 5 cm depth of the rectangular body is the tightest figure in the whole ladder.
The square Mini is the one to choose for tall items and the rectangular for wide ones. That single sentence answers most Mini sizing questions, because the two bodies differ by only 3 cm of width and 1 cm of depth and completely differently in proportion.
- A compact phone rather than any phone: the guide lists compact phones as a yes for the Mini and marks the wider load for the Small.
- A card holder, which is what fits where a full wallet does not: the Mini is not listed as carrying a full wallet at any tier.
- Keys and a lipstick, the two items the guide lists for every tier from the Mini upward.
- A compact mirror does not fit: the guide marks it as a Medium-and-up item.
- A small power bank does not fit either, for the same reason: the depth is 5 cm on this body and 7.5 cm on the Medium.
- An upright phone in the square Mini, or a flat phone in the rectangular Mini, which is the practical difference between the two bodies.
- Not a tablet, not a water bottle, not a folded scarf: nothing rigid or tall is documented for this size.
The load list above is derived from the published external dimensions and from the capacity table in our Chanel Classic Flap size guide, without measuring the interior of a specific bag. Treat it as an estimate for the size: at 5 cm deep the flap closes on the contents rather than around them, so confirm your own load with a photo of the actual piece.
These notes are read from the published Mini figures in this site’s Classic Flap guide; the guide lists the rectangular Mini as taking a compact phone, cardholder, keys and lipstick only.
How it compares with the next size up
The Mini sits at the bottom of a six-tier ladder that this site publishes in full.
One tier up, the Small at 23 x 14.5 x 6 cm is 3 cm wider and 1.5 cm taller than the rectangular Mini, with the same depth band and a 42 cm single chain instead of 58 cm. In use that is the tier where a compact mirror and every phone size start to fit, and where the bag stops being an evening piece.
Two tiers up, the Medium at 25.5 x 16 x 7.5 cm adds 2.5 cm of width and 1.5 cm of depth over the Small, and it is the first tier the guide lists as taking all six everyday items including a small power bank. Compared with the Mini, the Medium is 5.5 cm wider and 2.5 cm deeper — a different bag in use, not a scaled-up Mini.
Compared values are the published outside measurements listed in the ladder table above.
Leather, colour and hardware recorded for the Mini
The Mini is offered in the same leather family as the rest of the flap line, and the finish matters more here than at the larger sizes because the body is small enough that surface wear is visually exposed.
- Leather
- Lambskin, caviar-grained calfskin, suede and metallic leather are recorded for this style. Our guide's comparison applies unchanged: caviar resists scratches and keeps its shape, lambskin is softer with a richer sheen, and buyers who want one bag for everything generally take caviar.
- Colour
- The core colourways recur, and seasonal runs add tones such as beige, pink, navy and burgundy. Seasonal colours arrive in limited runs, so the colour is the option to confirm on the specific piece rather than from the family name.
- Hardware tone
- Gold and silver are the tones recorded for this style. On a small body the tone is more visually dominant than on a 30 cm bag, because the turn-lock occupies a larger share of the flap.
- Chain
- The chain is fixed rather than adjustable and cannot be doubled to shorten it, so the 58 cm or 54 cm drop is what you get. Our guide records the long-chain option as unavailable below the Small.

Mini Classic Flap questions buyers ask before choosing
What is the difference between the square and rectangular Mini?
Height and width swap over. The square Mini is 17 x 17 x 6 cm with a 54 cm chain; the rectangular Mini is 20 x 13 x 5 cm with a 58 cm chain. The square body stands taller, so a phone sits upright inside it, while the rectangular body is wider and shallower and takes the phone flat.
Can the Mini chain be shortened?
No. Our size guide records both Minis with a fixed chain: 54 cm on the square body and 58 cm on the rectangular one. The chain cannot be doubled the way the Small and Medium chains can, and the long-chain option is not offered at this size.
Will a large phone fit in a Mini Classic Flap?
The guide lists compact phones for the Mini and marks the wider load from the Small upward, so treat a large phone as a check-before-you-commit question. Ask for a photo with your phone model laid on the base of the specific piece rather than relying on the size name.
How much smaller is the Mini than the Small Classic Flap?
Three centimetres of width and about 1.5 cm of height, and the two bags read differently because of it: 20 x 13 x 5 cm against 23 x 14.5 x 6 cm. The Small is the tier where a phone sits alongside the essentials instead of filling the bag on its own.
Can a Mini Classic Flap be used as an everyday bag?
Our guide describes it as an evening bag unless your phone is compact, and the capacity table backs that up: no full wallet, no compact mirror, no power bank. If your daily load is a phone, a card holder and keys, the Mini carries it; anything more belongs to the Small.
How do I confirm which Mini I am being offered?
Ask for two numbers and one photo: the body height and depth, and a tape across the widest point. A 17 cm height with a 6 cm gusset is the square Mini, a 13 cm height with a 5 cm gusset is the rectangular one, and the chain drop then tells you which of the two you are looking at.
