Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM
open-top tote with two thin handles and side laces
LV Neverfull MM at a glance
The Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM is the middle tier of the range, published at 31 x 28 x 14 cm across the base and about 47 cm across the open top. It is the tier Louis Vuitton's own product page lists with a 13 inch laptop, and the one our capacity table marks as fitting a phone, a long wallet, a small tablet, an umbrella and a water bottle together.

Neverfull MM measurements in centimetres and inches
The Neverfull is an open-top tote, so it has two published widths rather than one: the base and the rim. Both are printed below, with the measurement point stated, because a chart that quotes one figure without saying which point it came from will contradict itself as soon as it also lists the GM.
| Measurement | Value | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Published base width | 31 cm / 12.2 in | LV Neverfull size guide, MM row |
| Published height | 28 cm / 11 in | LV Neverfull size guide, MM row |

| Height against BB and PM | 14 cm / 5.5 in taller than the BB, 7 cm / 2.8 in taller than the PM | difference between the published heights |
| Depth against PM and GM | 2 cm / 0.8 in deeper than the PM, 5 cm / 2.0 in shallower than the GM | difference between the published gusset figures |

Three published records describe this tier, and they do not agree on every figure. The brand's Damier and Singapore pages give 31 x 28 x 14 cm measured across the base; the same brand's US Monogram page prints 18.5 inches, about 47 cm, in the first position because it measures across the open top; and a resale measurement on a Monogram MM records a base length of about 31 cm with a 16.5 cm depth, which is roughly 2.5 cm deeper than the product pages. Height agrees everywhere at 28 cm. Our size guide's explanation - that the rim spans wider than the base seam - is the one this page follows, and the third-party depth is printed rather than averaged.
MM against BB, PM, GM and the shapes it competes with
Four tiers carry the Neverfull name today, and the BB, PM and MM share the same silhouette in proportion, so a photo will not tell them apart without scale. The last three rows are the shapes buyers usually weigh against the MM.
| Tier | Base width x height x depth | Open-top span | Handle or strap | Documented role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BB | 24 x 14 x 9 cm / 9.4 x 5.5 x 3.5 in | not published | removable adjustable strap, 39 cm drop and 58 cm maximum | Small zip-top tote on a shoulder strap |
| PM | 29 x 21 x 12 cm / 11.4 x 8.3 x 4.7 in | not published | about 16.5 cm drop, third-party | Light daily carry, hand or forearm |
| MM (this page) | 31 x 28 x 14 cm / 12.2 x 11 x 5.5 in | about 47 cm / 18.5 in | about 21 cm drop, third-party | Everyday tier with a 13 inch laptop |
| GM | 39 x 32 x 19 cm / 15.4 x 12.6 x 7.5 in | about 55.1 cm / 21.7 in | about 22.9 cm drop, third-party | Travel and weekend tier, 15 inch laptop |
| Braided Damier Azur MM (2021 special version) | 32 x 29 x 17 cm | not published | 20 cm handle drop; shoulder strap to 35 cm | Same tier name, larger body and an added strap |
| Speedy Soft 30 (adjacent shape) | 30 x 21 x 17 cm / 11.8 x 8.3 x 6.7 in | zip top instead of a rim | two rolled handles | Closed alternative to an open tote |
| Alma BB (adjacent shape) | 23.5 x 17.5 x 11.5 cm | domed zip body | top handles and a strap | Structured hand or crossbody carry |
Two conclusions follow from the table. First, the MM and GM are the only tiers with a published open-top span, at about 47 cm and about 55.1 cm, and those are the figures to compare if one-handed access is the thing you care about. Second, the special versions sit outside the standard ladder: the 2021 Braided Damier Azur MM measures 32 x 29 x 17 cm and adds a strap the standard MM does not have, which is exactly why a special edition has to be read from its own record.
Every published size in the Neverfull range
Four current tiers, all measured width × height × depth at the base; LV's own pages also print an open-top figure for the MM and GM, which is why one MM number looks like two.
| Size | Width | Height | Depth | What fits | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Neverfull BB | 24 cm / 9.4 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | 9 cm / 3.5 in | A phone, a cardholder, keys and a compact camera — the only tier that closes with a zip. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
| Neverfull PM | 29 cm / 11.4 in | 21 cm / 8.3 in | 12 cm / 4.7 in | A full-size wallet, a water bottle, a makeup pouch and a folded scarf; no official shoulder strap. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
| Neverfull MM | 31 cm / 12.2 in | 28 cm / 11.0 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | A slim 13-inch laptop in a sleeve, an A4 folder, a full wallet and a water bottle. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
| Neverfull GM | 39 cm / 15.4 in | 32 cm / 12.6 in | 19 cm / 7.5 in | A 15-inch laptop in a sleeve or a folded change of clothes — the travel tier. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
| Neverfull MM across the open top | 47 cm / 18.5 in | 28 cm / 11.0 in | 14 cm / 5.5 in | The same MM measured with the rim open and the laces loose — the figure that matters for one-handed access. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
| Neverfull GM across the open top | 55.1 cm / 21.7 in | 32 cm / 12.6 in | 19 cm / 7.5 in | The GM rim figure; a chart that shows the MM wider than the GM has mixed the two measurement points. | lv-neverfull-size-guide |
Every centimetre above is printed in this site’s own records; inch values are the same figures converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, so no page carries a second set of inches. Rows marked as reference points are neighbouring models published on this site, not Neverfull tiers — they are here to give the ladder a scale.
The same figures are indexed, with the source page and the date each one was checked, in the Luxury Bag Size Index — the cross-brand table that holds the published centimetre figures for bags, belts and shoes in one place.

Dimensions in cm and inches
The Neverfull is published with two measurement points, and the MM is the tier where both figures are printed side by side.
The Neverfull MM is published at 31 x 28 x 14 cm measured across the base, which is 12.2 x 11 x 5.5 inches; the same bag is also published at 18.5 inches, about 47 cm, across the open top. Both figures are official and both are correct: the first is the seam at the bottom, the second is the span of the rim with the laces loose.
The four current tiers are published here in full: BB 24 x 14 x 9 cm, PM 29 x 21 x 12 cm, MM 31 x 28 x 14 cm and GM 39 x 32 x 19 cm, all measured at the base. A chart that shows the MM wider than the GM has mixed the two measurement points, which is a data error rather than a different edition of the bag.
Inch values are the published centimetres converted at 2.54 cm per inch and rounded to one decimal, the same rule the guides use. Rows with no published figure say so.
How to recognise it in a photo
Open top with two thin handles and laces at the sides, plus a small zip pouch inside.
Not this style when: A zip running across the top is not a Neverfull.
The Neverfull is the clearest example on this site of a shape where photos settle the details and a tape settles the size. The silhouette, the laces and the pouch are all visible; the tier is not.
- Two rolled or flat handles on stitched leather patches, with the natural cowhide trim that darkens with use.
- Four side laces with buckled or knotted ends, sitting either pulled tight or released - which changes how wide the top of the bag reads.
- A hook closure joining the two sides of the rim at one point, not a zip running across the opening.
- A removable zipped pouch, which Louis Vuitton has included with the family since 2013; on the BB the accessory is a smaller coin purse instead.
- A base corner photo: on an open-top tote the corners are where the body takes the weight when it is set down, so that is the first area to inspect.
- A monogram or checkerboard surface with the print aligned across the gusset rather than cutting off mid-pattern.
- A tape across the base: 31 cm is the MM, 29 cm the PM and 39 cm the GM, and these are the figures the tier names refer to.
- A frame showing the bag carried filled, because a soft tote spreads at the rim once there is weight inside and reads wider than the same bag empty.
What the MM carries on a working day
Capacity in this family is closer to how much can be dropped in than to a fixed volume, because there is no rigid frame. Our catalog guide's capacity table lists the MM as a yes for every item on it, including the 13 inch laptop that every Speedy tier answers no to.
A slim 13-inch laptop in a sleeve, an A4 folder, a full wallet and a water bottle fit together, which is the load the guide uses to separate the MM from the PM. What runs out first is width rather than depth: at 31 cm across the base the bag takes a laptop plus soft items, and a hard document case alongside it starts to push the side laces apart.
Because the top is open, the MM flexes around a load rather than holding a fixed rectangle. A bag carried with the laces loose spans the full rim width and closes nothing; cinched, it reads as a smaller bag while holding the same contents.
- A 13 inch laptop in a sleeve, which is the load Louis Vuitton's own MM product page lists and the one our guide uses to separate the MM from the PM.
- An A4 folder or document case, sitting alongside the laptop in a 28 cm tall body.
- A long wallet and a phone, both listed as fitting at this tier.
- A small tablet, marked as a yes for the MM in the same table.
- A folding umbrella and a water bottle, both listed for this size.
- Small items that need securing, which belong in the removable zipped pouch on the interior D-ring rather than loose in the open compartment.
- Not a second hard case beside a laptop: the guide notes that at 31 cm across the base a hard document case starts to push the side laces apart, so width and not depth is what runs out first.
The list above follows the published capacity table in our LV bag catalog guide and the product-page load for this tier, not an inside measurement of a specific tote. Because the body is soft and the top is open, treat it as an estimate: confirm clearance for your own device with a photo of the bag packed.
Capacity follows the tier notes in this site’s Neverfull guide, which lists the MM as the everyday tier at 31 x 28 x 14 cm with a published open-top span of about 47 cm.
How it compares with the next size up
The PM and GM bracket the MM in the published four-tier ladder.
Down a tier, the PM at 29 x 21 x 12 cm gives up 2 cm of width and 7 cm of height, and it is the tier where a laptop stops being realistic at all. Up a tier, the GM at 39 x 32 x 19 cm adds 8 cm of width and 4 cm of height and takes a 15-inch laptop or a folded change of clothes.
The BB at 24 x 14 x 9 cm sits below both as the only tier with a zip closure and a shoulder strap. Across the four tiers the depth moves from 9 cm to 19 cm, so the family is really two bags — a zipped small tote and an open-top carry-all in three sizes.
Compared values are the published outside measurements listed in the ladder table above.
Canvas families, handle leather and hardware
Four canvas families carry this model, and all of them use natural cowhide for the handles, trim and lace ends. The material decides how the bag ages and how much maintenance it asks for.
- Monogram canvas
- The signature coated canvas, lightweight and water-resistant, with pale natural leather trim that develops a patina. It is the version the guide describes as the maximum-recognition option.
- Damier Ebene
- Dark brown checkerboard with no natural leather trim, which the guide lists as the most low-maintenance and stain-resistant of the canvas families.
- Damier Azur
- Light blue and cream checkerboard, fresher in tone and more prone to showing marks and colour transfer, which is why the guide points it at lighter wardrobes and spring or summer use.
- Handle leather and wear points
- Handles, trim and lace ends are vegetable-tanned cowhide that darkens with exposure, so two bags from the same year can photograph very differently. The guide records the base corners as the first place an open-top tote shows use, and the lace tips as the part that wears on the laces themselves.
- Hardware
- Gold hardware is the tone on record for this style; the tone does not change the tier or the capacity.

Neverfull MM questions we answer most often
Why does one Louis Vuitton page list the MM as 47 cm and another as 31 cm?
They measure different points of the same tote. The 31 cm figure is the base seam, and the 18.5 inch (about 47 cm) figure is taken across the open top, where a soft tote is widest. A resale listing that puts both on one bag confirms both numbers exist rather than one being a misprint.
Does the Neverfull MM close?
Not across the main opening. The MM has a hook closure that joins the two rim sides at a single point, four side laces that cinch the body, a removable zipped pouch and an interior flat pocket. The only tier with a published zip closure on the body itself is the BB.
Is the Neverfull MM large enough for a work bag?
For a 13 inch laptop in a sleeve, an A4 folder, a wallet and a water bottle, yes: that is the load the brand's own MM page and our capacity table list for this tier. Our guide also notes the practical limit, which is width at the base rather than depth.
How much heavier or taller is the GM than the MM?
The GM is 39 x 32 x 19 cm against the MM's 31 x 28 x 14 cm, so 8 cm wider, 4 cm taller and 5 cm deeper, with an open-top span of about 55.1 cm against about 47 cm. Our guide assigns the 15 inch laptop and overnight loads to the GM, and describes a fully loaded GM as heavier than its numbers suggest.
Can a photo tell me whether a listing is an MM or a PM?
No. The PM and MM share the same silhouette, the same laces and the same pouch, so nothing in a head-on photo gives scale. Ask for a tape across the base seam and a tape across the gusset; on this model that is the only pair of numbers that separates the tiers.
What is the difference between the MM and a special version such as the Braided Damier Azur?
The body and the accessories differ. The 2021 Braided Damier Azur MM is recorded at 32 x 29 x 17 cm with a 20 cm handle drop and a shoulder strap running to 35 cm, where the standard MM is 31 x 28 x 14 cm without a published strap. Read a special version from its own record.
Do the letters MM mean the bag is medium-sized?
Roughly, but they are French tier names rather than a measurement: MM is Moyen Modele, PM is Petit Modele, GM is Grand Modele, and BB is a smaller current tier below the PM. Because the letters are tiers, the centimetres are the figure to quote when a specific size matters.
